Final Fantasy Versus XIII Trailer Footage

I never owned a game in the Final Fantasy series, but I was always told I was missing out.  With a trailer like this, I can't help but get excited!  Watch the part in the middle as he scales the wall: he throws the sword and then teleports to it, using it as continual leverage!!  This just shouts at my desire for absolute
power...  Love the music too!

Gamespot Reviews Unreal Tournament III

The next installment of the Unreal Tournament series was released this week for the PS3.  This is not the traditional home for the title, which resides within the realm of PC gaming, but its scores remain the same. The third chapter in this thrill based shooter scored a 8.5 out of 10 from Gamestop.  With very few weapons or UI changes, this game boils down to looking like Gears of War (which also uses the Unreal Engine) and a very good "comp to console" control set up that was intuitive - rare for a console counterpart of PC games. The online servers offer a filtering option, allowing those that don't have mouse-point accuracy to fight only in games where that advantage is not leveraged.  The mod tools released for the PC version are missing on the PS3, which is a fair disappointment.  Also, it was mentioned that serious noticeable lagg was noted to have occured on multiplayer sessions on the PS3, which is something that shouldn't be present in the final version of an almost always-played-online title.

But all in all, Unreal Tournament is keeping alive what it knows to work: its gutsy shoot 'em up style and intuitive gameplay which have been entertaining PC gamers for generations.

Endless Ocean- Cool Idea

Due to the wild success of the Wii, We have the pleasure of seeing games surface that, without the relative prosperity of the times, would never have seen the light of day.  Endless Ocean is just such a game.  This is not an action title; it is an R&R session designed to give you the unique experience of a relaxing day on the ocean scuba diving with friends.  Gamespot also reviewed this game.  Check it out here.  It describes how you can collect things you find on the ocean floor, and sit on the deck and listen to music from your SD card as radio on your dives.  You can even dive with friends over the internet! All the controls are managed by a lazy flick of the Wiimote telling you where you want to go versus where you are.  You can orient you camera on a fish or a specific object, but otherwise, it stays where you want it.

This game is not going to change the way games are made.  But, It may be a reason to pick up a game thats (oh my damn) not to kill someone!

Nomad Added to SC 2

The Nomad was added this week to the Terran Units section on the official Starcraft website.  SC2Blog, which covers Q&A sessions with the developers, covered it.  (Follow the Pic link for details)

The nomad will act in place of the Science Vessel from the original Starcraft.  Comparatively, it will share the detection and Defensive Matrix with the older unit, but wont carry the Science Vessel staple, Irradiate.  For many, this was the only reason to tech up to a Science Vessel to begin with!

Irradiate was a very powerful ability when used correctly.  It affected only biological units, making them radioactive, in a sense.  They continually lost health as everything around them wilted to their touch.  This was particularly devastating to the Zerg, because all of their units are biological.  It was very effective as a defensive augmentor, because many player's units would sometimes clump in attacks, a default in their UI.  Irradiate would have them plinking away at their own health in addition to your defensive efforts.

The only other ability the Science Vessel had was EMP, which has already been passed to the ghost.  So who gets Irradiate?  It's too powerful a tool against the Zerg not to be included..

The Nomad does claim to make up for the loss in a new ability, which allows it to drop auto defense turrets as a energy ability, which can help in a last minute defense or a well micro-managed harrassment.  Updates will be available at the blog if anything changes.
